Since 1985 Isilda Parente has been revitalizing the art of embroidery, a tradition in Viana do Castelo. Some of her embroideries have been used on costume creations by the famous Portuguese fashion designer Nuno Gama. Each one of her pieces is handmade by several “grannies” from Isilda’s neighbourhood. Isilda Parente is the biggest embroidery brand in Viana and received the National Award for Craftsmanship.
